When Jo and Ben are passing through the park, they see a group of teenagers hitting cans around with sticks and Ben decides to ask them to move on. He asks them their names and ages and asks the 15 year old why she isn't at school. She tells him it's a curriculem day then they move on.
Shortly afterwards they're called out to a house where 3 squatters (the kids from before) are living illegally. Bill Morrison, the owner of the house is extremely unimpressed and tells Tom to make them move out. Tom tells him that he'll have to contact some department and that'll take a few days and until then the kids are allowed to stay there. The kids are interviewed, and they find out Tania, the 15 year old, is wagging school, the other two Ollie and Libby have left school. Ben thinks they should ring Tania's aunt and tell her, so they do so and when the aunt arrives she treats Tania roughly and Jo is very unimpressed. She says she doesn't blame Tania and that Ben shouldn't have called Alison the aunt.
Later that day they're called out to the Morrison house because Bill is destroyer the few possessions that Ollie and Libby have. He's charged and told to leave them alone.
Tania's aunt rings up later saying that Tania's run away from home, and the Heelers talk to Ollie and Libby, but they tell them that even if they did know where she was, Jo and Ben would be the last to know. Jo blaims Ben for Tania running away and having to sleep somewhere outside.
There's a report from the local supermarket that a trolley load of food has been stolen, and Tania is the obvious suspect. Supporting this, is the fact that the supermarket owner at the time of the theft had been out the back helping Ollie and Libby with something.
The next day Bill Morrison bulldozed his house because he wanted Libby and Ollie out of there. He says he was going to bulldoze it anyway, he just brought the date forward. So Libby and Ollie also have nowhere to stay and end up setting up in this covered place in the middle of the park.
Another piece of grafitti work is found just as Ruth Coher, one of the 'Proud Town' judges arrives. It turns out Chris and Ruth have been rivals for many years. Last time Ruth one some competition and Chris is determined not to let her beat her again. Ruth tries to mess up Mt Thomas by 'kindly' donating a huge amount of clothing, so big that it won't all fit in the bin so she throws the clothes all over the road. Chris complains to Tom who quickly settles the matter.
Tania still hasn't been found, but the
place where she stayed the night before has been which means that she had
to move again and she doesn't have any food because she left it behind.
Jo and Ben are just cruising around the
town making sure everythings fine when they see the clothes bin on fire,
when they get closer they can hear screaming coming from inside. It turns
out that Tania climbed in to keep warm and someone set it on fire.
In the end we find out that Ruth Coher
and Bill Morrison were having an affair and Ruth had gotten Bill to do
the grafitti so Mt Thomas wouldn't win the Proud Town competition, which
in the end it did, and she'd gotten Bill's son Hayden to light the fire
in the clothes bin without realising Tania was inside.
Jo helps find a place for Ollie and Libby
to go and at the end both Jo and Ben end up apologising to each other for
arguing by offering to shout the next round of beers down at the pub.
