Summary -
This episode begins at the site of a car
accident, where a man is injured and his possessions have been thrown all
around the road. There is no other car there, and the caller for the ambulence
was anonymous. The man continues to say he's been run off the road.
Ben is left at the scene of the accident
while Jack goes with the man, Marcus Jaccobs to the hospital. Later when
interviewing Marcus, he claims to have no memory of the accident, but keeps
asking about his possessions. He tells them he's an antique dealer, but
after research they discover he's a very 'unlucky' one, having had both
his expensive car and office 'accidentally' burnt.
Meanwhile Maggie and PJ are ready to have a 'glorious undisturbed night together' as Maggie puts it, but while eating ice-cream in bed Pat turns up and discovers PJ there. The next day he has a talk to PJ, but then he's satisfied PJ doesn't want to hurt Maggie and he gets on well with him. He asks PJ about a car he passed on the side of the road, which turns out was Marcus Jaccobs car. PJ's a little concerned about Pat's interest, but decides he must just be being a copper and tells him a little.
When going to see Marcus Jaccobs car and look for evidence, Maggie and PJ find Barry Craig and Mick Doyle already there. Mick's now working for the drug squad and they're in Mt Thomas for surveillance.
PJ doesn't tell Maggie about that, but when it turns out Marcus was forced off the road, he tells her and they decide to go and talk to Pat. Pat's annoyed PJ told Maggie, but then he eventually tells them, that Marcus Jaccobs was the man that got Robbie onto heroin. He tells them he didn't run him off the road, he'd been following him, but he'd lost him when he had to stop for petrol.
There's then a call about a disturbance at the Botanical Gardens, and Ben and Jack find Benny Matthews with a black eye running away from someone. He refuses to give any specific details, but when PJ's interviewing him, and tells him that the drug squad are in town he tells them it was Marcus Jaccobs and that Marcus has been doing a lot of business around town - $25 000 worth of business.
PJ tells Maggie they have to stop Pat from doing his own investigation in case he stuffs it up, but she tells PJ he's not the only one who hates Marcus.
Barry Craig and Mick Doyle then suspect Ben of stealing the money himself, but the rest of the station back him up fully. Ben ends up yelling at Barry and Mick when Barry brings up Ben's past (hitting Detective Peppy Romano) and brings Ben's splitting up with his wife into it as well.
PJ then gets Mick, and they go looking
for Pat, and after searching find him beating up Marcus Jaccobs. Both are
interviewed and they try to trick Marcus into confessing. They then decide
the best way to get a confession may be to let him go, which they do.
Pat and Mick then have a big fight in
the station, and that night at dinner Maggie tries to convince Mick talk
to Pat. However when Pat comes in they end up just having a bigger fight
(unhelped by the fact that Pat's drunk). PJ ends us leaving with Pat, and
Mick and Maggie keep talking, Maggie trying to tell Mick that there's another
side to Pat.
The next day, Marcus Jaccobs is found dead
in his room at the Imperial, having been shot up with high grade heroin.
Chris tells them she'd heard Pat at the
pub banging on Marcus's door the night before and Pat becomes under suspicion
for having killed him. Monica Draper then turns up, and insists on searching
his house where
$25 000 is found hidden. Pat refuses to
say anything about the money, and he tells them he doesn't remember anything
about the night before. He's going to end up being kept in custody, but
PJ says he'll personally vouch for him.
Maggie and PJ are then talking, Maggie
totally unconvinced that Pat would do anything of the kind, especially
after Robbie. She convinces him to help her to find the missing bits of
evidence.
They then find the car used to run Marcus
off the road, Maggie is convinced it isn't her fathers car because he doesn't
have that type of car, but when they get the usuals on the car at the repair
place it's registered to a Patrick Leonard Doyle.
Pat is then suspended from duty, and Maggie askes PJ to talk to Pat because he won't listen to her. PJ goes to talk to Pat, where he finds out that there are already 2 dead people on the case. Pat tells PJ not to let Maggie says he'd been set up, because she'd be the next. Pat says he has to find something to tell Maggie to make her leave it alone.
PJ then goes and talks to Maggie, but they
end up fighting, and when Maggie asks PJ if he's going to help he says
he can't. PJ tries to make Maggie listen but she ends up leaving because
she needs time to think and she's upset PJ won't help her.
