Summary -
This episode was Maggie's final episode.
It begins with Maggie and PJ meeting with Mick after the fight. Mick tells
Maggie she can't go to work because it's too dangerous but Maggie refuses
to be kept hidden away her last few days in Mt Thomas, but Mick corrects
her "You don't have days, not even one, the pick up's at 8 tonight" hence
the title One More Day. PJ tells Maggie he's going to go with her into
witness protection but Maggie tells him he can't because he'd be leaving
behind everything he ever cared about which he replies to with "Not everything."
Maggie tells him she can't let me leave everything behind, especially his
mother who's dying and that she's doing this because she has to, but he
has a choice and she couldn't bear to see him slowly regretting coming
with her and regretting her. PJ goes to work to keep up the cover story
of them being separated, and as Maggie and Mick arrive at the station an
attempt is made on Maggie's life by a speeding car. Tom tries to convince
Maggie and PJ to try and work things out, but Maggie tells him her mind
is made up. She then announces to everyone at the station that she's leaving
and she apologises to them for the fight they witnessed earlier. Ben tries
talking to both Maggie and PJ but doesn't get any real answers from either.
Maggie and Mick have told Pat about Maggie and PJ breaking off the engagement,
they couldn't tell him the real reason because he'd "spill his guts the
next time he got drunk". Maggie says she won't leave that night unless
she's had a chance to talk to Pat, so she askes Mick to organise for Pat
to be at the pick up point but that night he doesn't turn up. Maggie refuses
to leave without saying a proper goodbye so the pickup is postponed until
the next night. That night Maggie wakes up to hear someone outside. She
tries to find Mick but he's disappeared so she grabs a knife from the kitchen
and she's sneaking up to the door where she can see a shadow outside. Someone
grabs her from behind and she screams then it turns out PJ was the person
outside and Mick was the person who grabbed her. Maggie is really shaken
up and PJ starts yelling at Mick for leaving her alone. That night Maggie
and PJ talk about how they wanted to have grandkids and PJ tells Maggie
she has to move on and fall in love with someone else but she doesn't even
want to think about it. The next morning PJ tells Maggie that he's going
to go with her onto Witness Protection because without her he doesn't have
a life and she finally agrees because he says he isn't doing it for her,
he's doing it for himself .
That day a man called Stewie Forbes is
brought in with stolen goods, amongst them is Maggie's fathers watch and
Maggie asks the guy where he found it. She doesn't believe what he says
and ends up punching the guy trying to information out of him. Tom tries
to find a reason as to why she hit him but she tells him there was none.
Mick is ESD and when Mick isn't doing anything about it Tom starts to get
suspicious and works out what's going on. Stewie says he doesn't want to
press charges so the matter is dropped. Maggie and PJ follow him but he
just leads them in circles, but then they get a report of an abandoned
house on Wattle Street, where he says he found the watch and here they
find Pat. He's been filled up with scotch and had his mouth taped shut.
Everyone's arranged a farewell party for
Maggie at the pub, and PJ's arranged to join Maggie in Witness Protection
when it can be arranged. PJ leaves Maggie at the hospital to say goodbye
to Pat who's caught onto what's going on. She then goes to hand in her
firearm, but Tom (who's working back late at the station) tells her he'd
feel a whole lot better if she kept it and got someone else to give it
in. We then see PJ at the pub and Tom arrives but Maggie still hasn't arrived.
PJ assumes Maggie must have gone straight to the pickup point so he goes
there but Maggie isn't there. He goes home to find a message on his answering
machine of someone pretending to be him telling Maggie to "meet me at the
railyards". We then see Maggie arriving at the railyards and calling out
for PJ, then pulling out her gun and looking around. It then flips to PJ
driving along to the railyards, then flips of Maggie turning around slowly,
then PJ driving along then finally arriving. We see PJ getting out of his
car then calling out for Maggie. He draws out his gun and is walking cautiously
around when he kicks a gun. He picks it up and only then realises the gun
has blood dripping from it. He looks to the group and sees a long trail
of blood and then looks up to see Maggie a few metres away buckle at the
knees then collapse. He runs over to her and calls for someone to help
him on the portable. Maggie's been shot and she's dying. PJ picks her up
in his arms and he's talking to her and telling her she can't do this,
because they're going to get married, and she's going to look so beautiful,
and he's going to tell her he loves her and he asks her if she knows what
she's going to say to him but because she's been shot in the lung she can't
speak but you can tell she's trying to tell him she loves him. They're
both crying and PJ kisses her but then she goes limp in his arms and it
goes to ad break, then after the ad, all there is is the preview for next
week. That last scene was sooooooo sad! If you want to watch it I've got
the video clip of it on the video clips page for One More Day, there's
a link to it lower in the page.

Quotes -
"Can't you understand that it makes more
sense to start again as a couple?"
"And have you walk away from everything
that matters to you?"
"No, not everything"
"I'm doing this because I have to, you've
got a choice, and there are more reasons for you to stay here than to go,
your mum's dying, and she needs you. I know you, you need the job... it's
not what you do, it's who you are. You walk away from that and you'd be
miserable and you'd start to resent that and me"
"No"
"Yes you would and I couldn't bear to
see you go through that"
"Maggie I've thought of all the reasons
but they're just not enough"
"PJ can't you see that every time you
do this you hurt me more?"
"Tell me how I can help you"
"You can let me go."
- Maggie
and PJ
"Dad was so angry, ... why couldn't I have
just said that I wanted them too?"
"You'll have em, house, kids, growing
old together... I mean maybe it won't be with me but..."
"Fall in love with someone else?"
"Sure it happens."
"Not to me it won't."
"Oh yes it will."
"I don't want to think about it"
"Hey Maggie, I don't want you just to
be a memory, I want to think of you in 10, 20 years time with a loving
family..."
"No..."
"...with kids, Christmas tree all decorated...
I want you to be happy"
"All I ever wanted was you."
"Hey Mags if I ever t... if I ever took
you for granted then you know I didn't..."
"No... it doesn't matter now."
"You know sometimes... I just didn't have
the words."
"I knew what you felt... I won't ever
stop loving you."
"I know... promise me you will Mags, you
see I want to you have all those things that we couldn't. Now you asked
me to let you go, you have to let me go."
- Maggie
and PJ
"You didn't wake me"
"I thought you needed the sleep."
"...it's our last morning together"
"I thought about this all last night,
and I'm gonna come with you."
"PJ you can't."
"Look Maggie I know all the reasons why
I shouldn't, but I am."
"I can't let you make that sacrifice."
"Sacrifice, Maggie I'm doing this for
me!"
"That's not true."
"Listen, what's true is I know I never
want to wake up in the morning without you beside me, I need you bossing
me around, organising me, telling me to put the cap back on the toothpaste,
milk back in the fridge. It's called life Maggs, and I haven't got one
without you. You know we spend our whole lives looking for that one person,
and I'm not going to give that up. (They hug) So you tell Mick, you tell
Mick that I'm gonna come with you. OK?"
"Thankyou"
- Maggie
and PJ
PJ sees Maggie fall down and calls into
his radio "Somebody help me... help... me"
The next we see Maggie is in PJ's arms.

to be the best day, and you're going to look so beautiful... and I'm going
to say to you that I will always love you... all my life, and do you know
what you're going to say... to me?"
Maggie opens her mouth to try to speak
but she can't, both of them are crying.
"Yeah... yeah... and we're going to be
married! We're going to be married..."
He bends down and kisses her, but you
can tell she's passed away.
