The week previous weeks episode was a lead into this one, but it wasn't that big a lead up, just introduced another suspect into the case, Bryce McLeond.
Bryce offered to talk to PJ, but when PJ got there he was already dead and there was Mick with a fire extinguisher (not even using it!) telling him that they were too late and that Bryce was in there.
At the beginning of the episode PJ told Mick about the disk, telling him that he knew Maggie had something, and why else would she login to the computer at three o'clock in the morning. Only when PJ had enough evidence to prove there was actually a disk, did Mick tell him about the disk, then he told him that the justice department had hidden it and when he asked about it had basically said "what disk?"
A hit man who they suspected may have been involved in Maggie's death, attempted to kill PJ and Ben as they were leaving the station with Detectives Donald and Turnbill, but Detective Donald shot in self defence and he was killed.
PJ then had his suspicions about Detective Donald because he'd shot someone who could have brought them closer to finding out who killed Maggie. But when the incident with Mick and Bryce dying in the car something clicked in PJ's brain and next we see him telling Ben who he thinks it was. Ben was shocked and tried to defend them, but as he thought about it he too realised that it all fit.
PJ used himself as bait to lure the killer out, but ringing them and telling them he'd found a copy of the disk Maggie had, and some other things of Maggie's. We then see PJ lying down on his lounge and putting a picture of Maggie on his chest. Next thing we see someone picking the picture of PJ's chest.
It's Mick, and Mick's talking to PJ, then PJ tells him he knows and Mick pulls out a gun. PJ stands up, but he has a gun underneath him and he pulls it out on Mick. He tells Mick how it should have been him (Mick) not Maggie and Mick nods and is crying. He tells PJ, that once you get in too deep you get stuck, and how he had to do it. Mick says they should put the guns down, then PJ can do what he wants (punch Mick) and he'll at least get half a chance. PJ agrees and they have a bit of a fight, then Mick pulls a gun out of his ankle holster and holds it on PJ. He asks PJ who else he told about Mick and PJ says nobody, Mick asks again and PJ says the same, then Mick screams it and Pat is standing at the door and says "He told nobody!" Pat holds a gun at Mick, and when Mick is about to shoot him he shoots Mick twice, then about a minute later twice again when Mick again starts to hold the gun up.
Pat gets arrested, and Ben tells PJ he has to move on, he won't feel any better but he has to move on and PJ agrees.
The last scene of the episode is PJ sitting
up on the top of a hill (well mountain... Mt Thomas??? If there is such
a mountain) and Pat arrives (being constantly watched by the detectives
though) and Pat and PJ scatter Maggie's ashes out of Mt Thomas. Pat had
given PJ Maggie's engagement ring which didn't burn, and after scattering
the ashes, walked off in silence to go back to jail. PJ looks down at the
ring then throws that also.
